Screening Tools for Human Health Risk Assessment

The Environment Agency is in the process of producing and publishing toxicological data and Soil Guideline Values (SGVs) for standardised scenarios as part of the CLEA programme. SGV and TOX reports are being prepared and issued in a staged manner and in the interim there has been some uncertainty within the contaminated land sector on how to proceed for contaminants in soils where no authoritative UK guidance has yet been published. This screening tool aims to assist decision making in the assessment of chronic risks to human health and is intended to promote consistency across the industry.
The screening tool has been devised by members of the Contaminated Land Working Groups of the Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) and the Environmental Industries Commission Ltd (EIC). It is not an AGS or EIC document. This screening tool is provided as a free service for general information purposes and is used at your sole risk. The AGS and EIC shall have no liability to you or to any other person for any loss, damage, expense or claim of any kind whatsoever whether direct or indirect, consequential or incidental howsoever arising from the use of the Screening Tool or any other thing contained in this document.
