Mission
‘To minimise member’s business risk exposure and maintain profitability by providing procedural support and good practice guidance’
This will be achieved through

Objectives:
Permanent Objectives
1. To keep under review the following areas affecting members’ business risk exposure:
- the law;
- insurance;
- the commercial environment; and
- business risk management issues.
2. To identify:
- new developments in the areas under review (such as new legislation);
- areas of risk to members’ businesses;
- trends in good or bad practice in the industry (in the UK and other countries);
- changes in the trading environment; and
- opportunities to influence and educate clients and practitioners in allied fields, including the law and insurance.
3. To produce:
- documents informing members of changes or emerging trends;
- advice on how to deal with such changes or trends;
- guidance on the current legal, insurance and business risk issues;
- promoting of good practice on contractual and risk management issues; and
- response to government documents circulated for consultation where issues of risk and liability exposure arise.
4. To communicate to members and others using:
- the AGS news letter;
- Loss Prevention Alerts – short papers on specific topics of immediate concern;
- Tool Kit papers – more informative papers on specific topics which together form a useful guidance document;
- published booklets – more substantial published documents on specific topics;
- Client Guides – leaflets on topics which the AGS would like to bring to clients’ attention;
- the AGS website;
- the AGS Legal Helpline service provided by solicitors Berrymans Lace Mawer; and
- formal and informal contacts with other trade associations, government bodies and other organisations and individuals.
Additional Specific Objectives for 2008-9
- Issue further guidance on insurance matters.
- Prepare a position paper on the Terms in English Partnership’s and the Regional Development Authorities’ standard contracts with consultants.
- Provide guidance on some issues for Consultants to be aware of when employing others to work on site.
- Contribute to the revision of the Site Investigation Steering Group documents.
- Promote more widely the advisory and guidance documents produced by the Loss Prevention Working Group and get feedback on their use.
