VALIDATION AND USE OF GEOTECHNICAL SOFTWARE

Price: Members £15
Non-members £30

Users of geotechnical software should be aware that it is impossible to guarantee that a computer program is totally error free and there is always the possibility that a particular program will produce results that have an adverse effect on an engineering structure, and hence place people and property at risk.  This Guide establishes a clear, simple and consistent procedure by which a company may validate the geotechnical software it employs in-house.  By validating the software, the User gains confidence that it will work correctly for its intended purpose.  The Guide is concerned solely with validation of geotechnical software by the end-User.

GUIDELINES FOR COMBINED GEOENVIRONMENTAL AND GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION

Price: Members £15  (additional copies £10)
Non-members £30  (additional copies £20)

This document provides guidance for those involved with the design and execution of site investigations. It describes the most appropriate procedures for carrying out combined geoenvironmental (contamination) and geotechnical investigations so that potential technical conflicts do not arise. Provided the technical requirements of each type of investigation are met, geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations can be carried out at the same time. This combined approach brings many advantages, not least the avoidance of unnecessary duplication of time and costs. Students, promoters, clients, and new practitioners may also find this document useful.

COLLATERAL WARRANTIES

Edition 2

Price: Members £15.00
Non-members £30.00

The First Edition was published (in 1993) in a climate where collateral warranties were seen as exacerbating problems of rising costs and shrinking margins and threatening the quest for excellence in geotechnical engineering.  The guide therefore concentrated on the pitfalls facing geospecialists when asked to sign collateral warranties.  Since then new legislation and regulation, particularly in the environmental field, and substantial rises in insurance premiums have underlined the need for appropriate commercial risk management.

The second edition brings the Guide fully up to date.  It aims to empower geospecialist to understand the issues associated with collateral warranties and hence to be aware of the risks and of strategies to deal with them.  It deserves to become a key source of reference for all geospecialists who are involved with negotiation of collateral warranties.

GUIDE TO THE SELECTION OF GEOTECHNICAL SOIL LABORATORY TESTING

Price: Members £15.00
Non-members £30.00

The Guide concentrates on the use of soil laboratory testing to assist in the classification of soils and the selection of geotechnical parameters in UK practice.  Whilst it is a source of reference for experienced specialists, it is also intended to provide guidance for the younger less experienced geotechnical engineer or engineering geologist.  Where the Guide does not give particularly detailed information, extensive use of references is made to enable the reader to find appropriate sources of advice.
