The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (‘the Regulations’) came into force on 13 June 2014. They regulate most contracts made between a “trader” and a “consumer”. For contracts entered into on or after 13 June 2014, the Regulations supersede two previous sets of regulations:

• The Cancellation of Contracts made in a Consumers Home or Place of Work etc Regulations 2008.
• The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.

The new Regulations have significant legal and financial implications for any AGS members who have occasion to work for private individuals. Special rules apply to off-premises contracts (e.g. where you attend the client’s home or other premises and agree the terms on which you will carry out the work).
