Roadmap for AGS Piling released

- by
Tags: Featured

AGS piling is a data transfer format for piling data which includes design schedule information, the construction record, as-built information and pile testing data. It is being developed by the AGS Data Management Working Group, in collaboration with the Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS), with support from the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI).

A roadmap for the future of AGS Piling has recently been issued. This identifies the processes and actions required to get AGS Piling ready for formal publication, before going on to look at what needs to happen to achieve the ultimate goal of establishing the use of AGS Piling in our industry, for the benefit of the industry.

The roadmap can be downloaded from here. Further information including the current draft of AGS Piling can be accessed from here.

AGS Piling is being developed by a working group made up of AGS and FPS members. We are keen to expand and strengthen this group and would be interested in hearing from piling contractors or specialists involved in pile testing or rig instrumentation. Please contact AGS if you wish to join the group or get involved in some other way, e.g. corresponding member.

The working group is also on the lookout for potential industry sponsorship or collaboration opportunities to help to push things forward a little faster. If you are able to help, or have some suggestions, then please get in touch.

To contact the AGS, please email ags@ags.org.uk.

Our new early careers video discusses the many different career paths which are open to graduates entering the geo-industry.

If you’re a graduate and have studied geology, geography, environmental science, civil engineering or have a passion for the environment, then a career in the geo-sciences could be for you.

There are many different avenues within our sector to explore; from working on small pre-construction building projects, to large earthworks movements, to detailed laboratory analysis. You can be part of a team developing solutions for construction, engineering and renewable energy, or be focused on cleaning up the environment and keeping the public safe from harmful materials in the ground. Whatever pathway you choose, you’ll be helping to shape the industry for future generations.

Take a look at the video for full details.

New version of AGS Piling released

- by
Tags: Featured

A new draft of AGS Piling has been released for industry comment.

AGS Piling is a data transfer format for piling data which includes design schedule information, the construction record, as built information and pile test data. It is being developed by the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) in collaboration with the Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS), with support from the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI).

The latest draft (version 0.4.0) is based on industry feedback received as part of a recent HS2 innovation project. In addition, it also trials a new approach to both the schema design and the file format itself. This is in response to the experience gained with AGSi, the relatively new transfer format for ground models and interpretative data. The documentation for the previous version of AGS Piling remains available to facilitate comparison between the different approaches.

Documentation for the both the new and previous versions is available on the AGS website.

A working group has been formed to continue the development of AGS Piling towards a formal release. This operates as a specialist subgroup of the AGS Data Management Working Group but includes representatives from the FPS and piling specialists.

The working group is keen to receive feedback on the draft, or any thoughts on the general concept of AGS Piling. Information how to get in touch is given on the AGS website.

New AGS Data Format groups and headings for Static Cone Penetration and Pressuremeter Testing have been released.

The proposed replacement CPT and Pressuremeter Testing groups, headings and notes should be considered a Beta version or “draft for discussion”, they can be found here.

We encourage trialling these groups by supplying them in addition to the pre-existing Static Cone Penetration/Dissipation (SCPG/SCPG/SCPT/SCDG/SCDT groups) and Pressuremeter tests (PMTG/PMTD/PMTL). However, please note, these groups should not be included in any specification at this stage.
