Bitesize Guide – EC7 Next Generation 13 – Grouted Anchor Geotechnical Design

The current published version of BS EN 1997-1:2004 + A1:2013 8.1.2.1 defines an anchor as ‘an installation capable of transmitting an applied tensile load through a free length to a load bearing stratum’. It is stated that it covers the design of both grouted and mechanical-type anchors, e.g. screw, harpoon and expanding-type anchors, but then does not actually provide any specific guidance on the design of such anchors. Whilst this omission as now been rectified to an extent within the proposed draft of FprEN 1997-3:2024 Clause 8, this Bitesize guide is intended to concentrate on the geotechnical design of traditional grouted anchors (as covered by BS EN 1537:2013).
