The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) delivers a card scheme for industry that requires individuals working in construction related activities to hold an appropriate qualification and have passed a Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Health Safety and Environment Test. The CITB test is a computer-based multiple choice test for a basic level of health and safety knowledge and provides a good way of making sure new entrants have a threshold knowledge of health and safety. Other similar schemes are available but CSCS has been adopted as a mandatory requirement by many clients. It has a national database and rapid electronic checking system.
