Occupational health relates to how work and the work environment can affect an employee’s health
and equally how an employee’s health can affect their ability to do their job.
Occupational health is generally more difficult to manage than safety. The causes and
consequences of poor safety at work are immediate and often relatively easy to deal with. Work related
causes of ill health however, can be more difficult to spot. It can often take some time for
symptoms to develop so the connection between cause and effect is less obvious, but once the
problems have been recognised and acknowledged, solutions are now well documented.
This document covers the benefits of good occupational health, effective occupational health and common health issues.
